Daille Kettrell: Bio

Daille Kettrell, (pianist, vocalist, songwriter, educator), a Camden, New Jersey native, has been on the music scene performing professionally for over two decades. She has performed as a keyboardist with the likes of the late Lionel Hampton, vibraphone/percussion legend, Bobbi Humphrey, jazz recording artist/flutist, the late Vesta Williams, R & B artist/vocalist, and Gordon James, smooth jazz trumpeter. Daille's piano stylings and sultry alto voice can be heard in area venues playing blues, jazz standards, and her original material. She sings rhythm and blues as well. As a composer, she received an honorable mention for her composition, "The Next Plateau" in the 2003 John Lennon Songwriting Contest. She is known for her versatility and ability to compose various styles of music equally well.

Daille received a Bachelor of Music Degree from Clark University in Worcester, MA. At Clark she furthered her piano studies with Rita LaPlante Raffman, and was a member of the Jazz Big Band there under the direction of Al Mueller. After moving to East Orange in 1990, Daille became a member of the Shad Royful Renaissance Orchestra of Montclair, playing piano for several years. One of her first encounters with a jazz legend in the Newark area was when Daille was trying to get a pulse on her original jazz work. She was told by someone to see the late Dr. Aaron Bell, bassist with Duke Ellington, at Essex County College who began the well known vocal SWAT Team there. Ms. Kettrell played The Next Plateau for him on piano, and he said, that work was "one of the most original pieces I've heard in a long time." She studied jazz piano and arranging with the late Howard "Duke" Anderson. Daille attended jazz workshops with Barry Harris in Manhattan, and Benny Golson and Dave Lalama in Boston. During this time, she also was performing with local NJ bands, like the Final Solushun at the famous Peppermint Lounge in Orange, and SlamFunktion at Classics Cafe in Westwood. In 2012 Daille attended the Women's Music Summit in Big Indian, NY, and participated in workshops under the direction of Me'Shell N'degeocello, Malina Moye, Marnie Stern, and Melissa Auf Der Maur.

Her CD Release for The Rite Time, The Rite Moment was held there on September 19, 2008. She has performed at the COX 2009 Omaha Riverfront Jazz & Blues Festival in Omaha, NE, The 2008 Long Branch Jazz & Blues Festival in Long Branch, NJ, WBGO Jazz-FM 88 Newark Radio Children's Concerts and Gallery Receptions, Birdland, and the 55 Bar in Manhattan, NY; Trumpets Jazz Restaurant in Montclair, NJ, the Private Place Lounge in Orange, NJ, the Salt Creek Grille in Princeton, NJ, Chris' Jazz Cafe and Warmdaddy's in Philadelphia, PA. Jazz has always been her mainstay and primary love, but Daille's taste in music is eclectic. After 2002 you would find her working with any number of bands, because she is one of the most requested on-call players around the area on the r&b circuit. From 2009 until 2013 she worked in three tribute units with the same backing band, Nu Men of Soul Temptations Tribute, Shining Star Earth, Wind & FIre Tribute, and Johnny Fever Michael Jackson Tribute.
